Undergraduate Training

Where do I study advertising and marketing communications?

The Auckland University of Technology (AUT)

Under one name or another, the AUT has provided advertising curricula for the industry for more than 20 years. In 1994, in addition to diploma programmes, it offered New Zealand's first-degree qualification in Advertising as part of its Bachelor of Business, primarily focused on advertising management, account servicing and media planning.

AUT's School of Communication Studies offered, for the first time in 2000, a Graduate Diploma in Advertising Creativity major available in its Communications Studies degree. AUT provides the widest range of Advertising educational options and resources available in New Zealand, including university library with Internet based resources, television production studios, radio production studios, multimedia and computer labs.

CAANZ actively supports all programmes with its members serving on AUT advisory committees, providing guest speakers, sponsorships and ongoing quality review. Qualifications have been reviewed and approved by the International Advertising Association (IAA).

AdSchool

Diploma in Creative Advertising

This course successfully grooms students for the intensely challenging but creatively satisfying and financially rewarding world of creative advertising. One of its strongest assets is its ties to the advertising industry and the involvement with its senior creative people, which means it operates very closely to ‘real world’ standards. But the course’s greatest strength is its focus on ideas. Big ideas. Fresh ideas. Ideas that help people sell their products and services.

The course has enjoyed unparalleled and sustained success in both New Zealand and global student awards, and 69% of graduates have landed full-time jobs as either art directors or copywriters in a wide variety of advertising agencies, both in New Zealand and overseas.
